Stop! CLOSING TIME!

“Congratulations Miss Rockwell, here are the keys to your new home,” my realtor says, handing me a keychain with a little house charm along with my set of keys. The owners sit across the table from me, an older couple who have owned this home for the past thirty years. They brought their babies home from the hospital there, watched them grow, shared loss, and gained grandchildren. A real home. The wife reminds me so much of my own mother, with her mannerisms and the way she talks about the home they’ve shared. It almost brought tears to my eyes, but I was luckily able to hold it back.

“I hope this home is able to make you as happy as it made our family.” I smile and shake both of their hands as I get up from the closing table. My realtor hands me a bottle of champagne with a bow on it, and says congratulations.

“Oh, I am sure this home will make me just as happy as your family has been for so many years. Thank you for allowing me to make it my own home,” I say, before turning for the door. Still holding back tears. My home. It is finally my very own home. This beautiful, old, 1818 historical home is mine. I open up my phone, and text Violet and Liam the same message.
